Friday Night Preview
Bryan Burke - The River City News
Top-ranked Simon Kenton had no problem last week in Lexington against Bryan Station as the Pioneers put up 50 points for the second consecutive week.

Running back Dillon Powell already has 457 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, and the SK defense has four interceptions in its first two games. This week, the Pioneers travel to Conner which won its opener last week, 43-6, over Boone County.

Second-ranked Cooper also looks to continue its hot streak when the Jaguars head South to play Bryan Station in Lexington. Cooper pounded two quality local teams in consecutive weeks by thumping Highlands, 37-13, in the opener and dismantling Newport Central Catholic last week, 35-0. Cooper has a tough schedule this year and will take on Campbell County and then Simon Kenton after returning from Bryan Station.

The Ryle Raiders stay at number 3 in the RCN/NKYSports.com Top-5 Poll after squeaking by Covington Catholic and Lexington Catholic each by a touchdown. Ryle has proven to be a scrappy team with a lot of heart that should not be overlooked by its opponents. The Raiders face a struggling Boone County team on Friday before traveling to Highlands next week. Quarterback Tanner Morgan has been solid to start the year with 654 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.

Highlands got back on track in Week 2 by easily beating Campbell County at home, after getting hammered by Cooper in Week 1, 37-13. This week, the Bluebirds travel to Scott County. The schedule heats up when they return from that trip with games against Ryle, St. Xavier (KY), and Simon Kenton in consecutive weeks.

As for the fifth and final spot on the poll, Scott has taken the place of Cov Cath. Scott barely edged out New Cath in their first game in a defensive game, 8-7, but got the scoring going last week at Dixie, easily taking care of Dixie, 36-7. The Eagles have a slate of winnable games coming up in their schedule as they head to Newport this week, Conner the following week, and Holy Cross after that.
