NKY Football Playoffs Begin
11/1/2006 - by NKS Editor
The first round of playoffs begin for Northern Kentucky Football this Friday. Last year, the Thoroughbreds of Newport Central Catholic won the Class A State Championship. Will another NKY team make it to the State Finals this year?

Most would argue that Highlands and Covington Catholic have the best shots at State this year. Unfortunately, one of these 2 teams will not make State, as a most probable 2nd round game presents itself between the 2 teams again next week.

Here is a look at this week's playoff matchups:

CLASS A
Dayton vs. Beechwood
The Tigers come into this game 8-2 with no losses during District play. Look for Beechwood to dominate this game like they did 3 weeks ago.

NewCath vs. Holy Cross
Holy Cross defeated NewCath for the first time in their team's history 10-7, but that was the first District game for each team and NewCath has improved their run game since.

CLASS AA
Lloyd vs. Mercer County
Mercer County is 10-0 and defeated Lloyd earlier this year 64-12. Lloyd has a tough road ahead of them Friday night.

Spencer County vs. Newport
Both teams come into this game with 3-2 District records. Spencer County won versus Newport earlier in the season 14-6, so this should be a very competitive game.

CLASS AAA
Grant County vs. CovCath
CovCath won 64-12 in their first matchup and will be preparing for another bout with Highlands.

S. Oldham vs. Highlands
Highlands won 51-27 in their first matchup and will be preparing for another bout with CovCath.

CLASS AAAA
Campbell County vs. Boone County
Campbell County was one victory away from being the number one seed and ended up with the 4th seed. They defeated Boone County 48-21 three weeks ago at home but look for this game to be much closer the 2nd time around.

Dixie vs. Ryle
Ryle defeated Dixie 16-14 last week and no reason this game won't be close again.

NKY.com will be broadcasting the Dixie vs Ryle game and the NCC vs Holy Cross game on Friday. BROADCASTS

And Covcath will be broadcasting the Grant County vs. CovCath game on Saturday. BROADCAST
