CovCath and NewCath Face-off in Regional Championship

Both Covington Catholic and Newport Catholic won close games yesterday to advance to the 9th Region Baseball Championship game.

CovCath (28-7) defeated Dixie (16-16) 6 to 5 in 10 innings to secure the win. Ryan Darner singled in Luke Maile in the bottom of the 9th for the game winning hit. Brandon Nutini pitched the last 4 innings to get the win. CovCath was led by Luke Maile who went 1-for-2 with 4 walks.

Dixie had 13 total hits compared to CovCath's 5 hits but it still wasn't enough. Dixie's Matt Nichols went 6-for-6.

Dixie: 5 Runs, 13 hits, 3 errors
CovCath: 6 runs, 5 hits, 5 errors

NewCath (19-15) got off to an early 5-2 lead in the 2nd inning and never trailed in the game vs. Boone County (19-13), as the Breds won 8 to 4. Michael Enzweiler pitched 6 innings for the win. Mark Kelly went 2-for-4 for NewCath with a double and 2 RBI's.

Boone Cty: 4 runs, 2 hits, 2 errors
NewCath: 8 runs, 7 hits, 6 errors

CovCath and NewCath will play the 9th Region Championship game Friday night at 7:00 PM at Champion Window field in Florence.
