Boys Soccer - District 19 Championship - NCC vs Brossart
10/12/2011 - by NKS Editor
The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds won in exciting fashion again last night against the Bishop Brossart Mustangs on penalty kicks. The game was deja vu from their first game of the year when the Breds won in the same fashion.

The Breds scored first with a goal from Seth Connolly, but the Mustangs countered with 2 unanswered goals. NewCath then scored 2 unanswered of their own to take a 3-2 lead but Brossart countered to tie the game at 3-3 with about 18 minutes remaining.

At the end of regulation, the score remained 3-3 and the teams went into 2 overtimes. The second overtime was saved by NewCath freshman, Jacob Hensley, who saved the potential winning Brossart goal. With just seconds on the clock in the 2nd overtime, Brossart got off a shot to an open goal but Hensley raced over to kick it away as the ball was about one foot from giving the Mustangs the victory.

The Breds took over on Penalty kicks as they won 4-2. NewCath goalie, Nathan Grosser, deflected one PK out while another Mustang kick went high right. The Breds made all their penalty kick attempts.

NewCath Senior, Austin Juniet, broke the NewCath all-time record for assists in the game, and also tied the record for most goals scored at NewCath. He will be playing at NKU next season.
