Boone County vs. Holmes
Boone County held off a good Holmes team with a 51-43 victory last night at the Bank of Kentucky Center. Despite Holmes pulling off to a quick four point lead by the end of the 1st quarter, the Rebels managed to be winning 22-17 at the half.
It was a close call for the Rebels in the 4th quarter nonetheless. Even with a 41-34 point lead with 3:14 to go in the game the Bulldogs managed to rally back with Rashawn Coston hitting two 3-balls to get within two points of Boone County with only 39.0 seconds left to play. With the Rebels hitting their free throws at the end, Holmes had no chance.
Boone County’s Zane McQueary ended up with 13 points, but it was the first two points that put him in an elite 1000 point club with the Rebels.
Lloyd vs. Highlands
Lloyd slid into the semi-finals of the 9th Region by beating Highlands with a 42-39 win. It was a low scoring game starting with the 19-12 Juggernaut lead at half-time. At one point the game was tied at 30 with 5:46 on the clock in the 4th quarter. Then with 2:17 left, Lloyd was up with a 36-35 lead. Lucky for the Juggernauts, Highlands missed the three-quarters court shot for the tie.
Personally, my focus was mainly on senior Juggernaut, Tyler Bray. He started off by throwing down a flat-out NASTY one-handed alley-oop pass within the first few minutes of the game. Lloyd ended the 1st quarter with 14 points and Bray accounted for 10 of them, which should tell you something. Bray ended up with more than half of Lloyd’s points with 23. (Trust me; keep an eye on that young man Saturday.)
The Rebels will meet the Juggernauts March 3rd at 2:30pm at the Bank of Kentucky Center where NKYSports.com will be broadcasting the game live.
