Campbell Co 42 NewCath 16
9/1/2012 - by Lizzie Kibler
Campbell County’s Fighting Camels proved a stronger team than Newport Catholic’s Thoroughbreds as they dominated the field Friday night. This being the third game of the season for Campbell County, Quarterback Tyler Durham (#18) and his team made Campbell County proud with their outstanding victory.

Campbell County’s first drive led them to a first and goal at the 5 yard line, however; holding and intentional grounding penalties pushed them out of scoring range.

Following a 70 yard punt by Josh Cain (#2) for NewCath that backed Campbell County to their 3 yard line, Tyler Durham then led a scoring drive that ended with a 54 yard pass to Jake Zabonick (#83) to score a touchdown with a minute left in the first quarter. The first quarter instantly looked good for the Camels.

With just over a minute in the second quarter, Durham ran for a 30 yard touchdown. On NewCath's next drive, quarter back Josh Cain (#2) threw a pass that was intercepted by Mitch Kramer (#4) with 49 seconds left. Kramer was then granted a congratulatory chest bump by his fellow teammate. In the next play, Stephen Myers (#9) ran for a touchdown with 25 seconds left. The first half ended with the Camels leading 21-0.

The third quarter began better for NewCath as they scored 2 points for a safety following a high snap on a punt. Later in the quarter Noah Freppon (#8) ran for a touchdown, bumping the score to 21-9. However that is the closest the score would be all night. Tyler Durham ran for a 65 yard touchdown with 57 seconds left in the third quarter. Alex Howard (#28) also joined in the scoring with a 36 yard touchdown run.

NewCath’s Dylan Hayes (#44) swooped in to score a final touchdown, but it was too little, too late. The clock ran down and the game ended with a final score of 42-16, Campbell County.

Durham said after the game that preparation was the key to their victory and it definitely showed with tonight’s game.
