The Regional soccer tournaments begin today in Northern Kentucky as teams from the 8th, 9th and 10th Regions compete for a birth to the State Soccer tournament. The Regions are wide open this year with several teams having a chance to advance with so many good teams. Note, most of the first round games are being played at the home teams' field.
8th Region at Collins
Simon Kenton (11-9-1) and Walton (12-7) come into this Region with similar records but will have to get past the North and South Oldham teams in the Semifinals.
9th Region at Ryle
This year's 9th Region boys tournament is very wide open with 6 of the 8 teams holding winning records. The first round showcases some very good games right from the start with St. Henry (7-8-2) vs. CovCath (11-5-3), Boone County (16-6-1) vs. NewCath (12-4-1), and Highlands (13-7-1) vs. Ryle (14-5-2). CovCath hasn't played St. Henry yet this year but NCC defeated Boone County 2-1, and Ryle beat Highlands 1-0 earlier this season.
10th Region at Montgomery Co
All the games for this Region will be played at Montgomery County and with only 6 teams in this Regional tournament, two teams will get a bye - Montgomery County and Harrison County.
Brossart (16-4) is the favorite to win this Region will play their first round game against George Rogers Clark (11-5-1). Scott (7-9-1) will play their first game versus Mason County (8-11-1).
8th Region at Shelby County
Simon Kenton (10-7-4) will host their first round game against Anderson County (6-13-2). They will have a potential Semifinal game versus Oldham County who beat the Pioneers 5-2 earlier this season.
9th Region at Dixie
As with the 9th Region boys tournament, the girls tournament is somewhat open with everyone looking to take defeat Notre Dame Academy (16-2-3). The Pandas were defeated by Highlands earlier this season, tied Campbell County and defeated NCC by 1.
Boone County (16-3-1) will face NCC (12-3-4) at Boone County and the winner will play the winner of NDA vs. Dixie (9-7-1).
10th Region at Harrison County
All the 10th Region girls games will be played at Harrison County with Pendleton County and Campbell County having to play first round games while Brossart and Harrison County received byes.
