OMEGA/ProScan Game of the Week - Southern vs Dixie Heights
11/3/2016 - by NKS Editor
The OMEGA Processing / ProScan Imaging Game of the Week webcast features Southern (4-6) vs Dixie (5-5).

The first round of the State Football Playoffs begins this weekend and for this week we picked a Class 5A matchup between the Southern Trojans and Dixie Heights Colonels.

Southern HS is located in Louisville, KY and they’re coming off a 41-0 loss to DeSales while Dixie is also coming off a 43-14 loss to Ryle. Southern has a balanced attack between the rush and the pass. Their key offensive player is QB Cameron Skinner who leads the team in rushing and passing. Skinner has rushed for 491 yards and 9 TD’s and has thrown for 539 yards and 6 TD’s.

Dixie primarily relies on the run and has 3 running backs over 500 yards. Jose Torres has rushed for 1,132 yards and 11 TD’s, Cameron Barrett has rushed for 640 yards and 6 TD’s while Austin Rice has rushed for 517 yards and 3 TD’s.

You can watch the game LIVE starting at 7:30 PM on NKYSports.com!

NKYSports.com Video Replay – Beechwood vs NCC

Class 1A Playoffs
Eminence (4-6) at Beechwood (9-1)
Frankfort (3-7) at Bellevue(3-7)
Ludlow (3-7) at Louisville Holy Cross (6-4)
Dayton (2-8) at Kentucky Country Day (8-2)
Brossart (8-2) at Raceland (8-2)

Beechwood has another legit shot to make it to the State Championship game. The Tigers have been playing well with only 1 loss this season and are trying to redeem their State Championship loss from last year when they lost 42-28 to Pikeville.

Class 1A State Playoff Bracket

Class 2A Playoffs
Carroll County (4-6) at NewCath (5-5)
Owen County (5-5) at Holy Cross (7-3)
Newport (1-9) at Walton-Verona (6-4)
Lloyd (5-5) at Gallatin County (6-4)

NewCath is still our favorite to win the Regional Championship and advance to the Final Four but their path might be a little tougher this season with another potential matchup against Holy Cross. NewCath lost to Mayfield last year in the State Championship 17-7.

Class 2A State Playoff Bracket

Class 4A Playoffs
Scott (2-8) at Johnson Central (9-1)

The Eagles played Johnson Central in the State Quarterfinals last year and lost on a last second pass 27-26. It’s been a tough year for Scott though this season and Johnson Central will win this game easily.

Class 4A State Playoff Bracket

Class 5A Playoffs
Fairdale (3-7) at CovCath (7-3)
Southern (4-6) at Dixie (5-5)
Highlands (3-7) at Doss (5-5)

If Highlands can get pass Doss we have the potential to see a re-match between Highlands and CovCath but this time in the second round of the playoffs. CovCath lost to Class 6A Scott County last week 35-28 but we expect them to make a good run in the playoffs this season.

Class 5A State Playoff Bracket

Class 6A Playoffs
Henry Clay (3-6-1) at Ryle (10-0)
George Rogers Clark (1-9) at Simon Kenton (9-1)
Cooper (6-4) at Bryan Station (4-6)
Paul Dunbar (3-7) at Conner (8-2)
Campbell County (3-7) at Madison Central (8-2)
Tates Creek (5-5) at Boone County (1-9)

The Class 6A Playoffs is stacked with really good teams from NKY! Ryle will take their undefeated season into the playoffs and they could possibly play Simon Kenton in Semfinals.
