2017 Bishop Brossart Notes and Schedule.
Paul Wiggins (18-13) enters his fourth season as Mustang head coach and will seek to lead the team to its third consecutive playoff appearance.
Offense: The offense will seek to carry forward its balanced and dynamic production from 2016, when it averaged 34.3 points per game. Junior QB Tyler MacDonald takes over for the departing Chase Keller as the primary signal caller. MacDonald replaced the injured Keller in last season's district contest against Bracken County and led the team to victory.
Senior WR Bryce Donnelly returns after leading all Class 1A receivers statewide in touchdown receptions with 16. Donnelly also returned a punt and a kickoff for a TD in 2016.
Junior RB Nate Bezold is the leading returning rusher, having gained 222 yards a season ago, while senior Bradley Moore was close behind with 176 yards rushing. Both Bezold and Moore have shown the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, combining for 29 receptions and nearly 400 yards.
Keller McGrath, Bryan Duffy and Adam Orth are also expected to make significant contributions at the skill positions.
Seniors Ben Schwartz and Brady Denniswill anchor an offensive online which saw key seniors graduate last season.
Defense: This side of the ball faces significant losses from 2016 and will likely feature players in different roles depending on opponent and circumstances.
The linebacking core may prove to be the heart and soul of the Mustang D, with leading returning tackler Bezold, along with hard-hitting senior LB Jack Howard and Junior Mason Dennis leading the group.
The secondary will be led by Moore and Senior Conner Moffett.
The defensive line will be anchored by 240 lb Junior Jackson Reis. The versatile Duffy may be seen at various positions.
