10/6/2017 - by Bluegrass Preps
1) 5A Covington Catholic (6-0) – No action this past week. The Colonels return to action this Friday when they host Indianapolis, IN-3A Bishop Chatard (3-4).

2) 6A Ryle (4-2) – Ryle hosted Indianapolis, IN-6A Cathedral High School (3-4) on Friday. The Fighting Irish came in favored, and left with a 23-17 win over the Raiders. Ryle had a good showing in the ESPN-televised game, despite the loss, and actually had more overall offensive yardage than Cathedral: 345 to 277. QB Easton Pilyer passed for 167yds and 2 TDs, while RB Jake Chisholm was held to 94yds rushing. It was only the second <100yd rushing game for Chisholm this season, the other being against Covington Catholic in their only other loss thus far in 2017. On the defensive side, Mason Smith had 13 tackles, and Jackson Saladin and Justin Selby each had 12. Ryle has 6A Cooper (0-6) this week in district play.

3) 6A Simon Kenton (7-0) – The ‘Neers added another win to their record on Friday, this time beating 1A Beechwood in a surprisingly close call. The Tigers led 7-0 until about halfway through the 2nd quarter, but Simon Kenton was able to pull out a 22-14 win in the end. QB Matt Shearer had 185yds passing, and ran for 79yds and 2 TDs, while the remaining points came via 3 FGs and 1 XP off the foot of Christian Seger. Will Parks led the defense with 10 tackles. The Pioneers take on 6A Boone County (1-5) this Friday in their first district challenge.

4) 1A Beechwood (4-2) – The Tigers played 6A Simon Kenton (7-0) on Friday, and surprised most folks by leading the game for the first 17 minutes of regulation. Simon Kenton had a 3pt lead going into the half, and eventually beat Beechwood 22-14 in the Tigers’ second loss in 3 weeks. QB Brayden Burch went 21-36 passing for 167yds, while RB James Davis rushed for 102yds and 2 TDs. Beechwood plays 1A Bellevue (4-2) on Thursday in their 1st game of district competition.
