Breds, Raiders and Colonels Advance |

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds, Ryle Raiders, and Covington Catholic Colonels won to move on to the 3rd round of the Kentucky High School Football playoffs. NCC defeated Beechwood 26-21. Early in the game, Beechwood scored on 2 big plays to take a 14-7 lead. The Tigers returned the opening kickoff for a TD and then returned an interception for a TD. Beechwood took a 21-16 lead into the half but was unable to score in the second half.
In 4A action Ryle defeated Campbell County 26-10. This game was tied 3-3 going into halftime but Ryle took control in the 4th quarter. With about 5 minutes to play and the Camels down 7, they had a punt-snap go out of the endzone for a safety giving Ryle a 9-point lead and the ball. Ryle went on to score one more touchdown.
In 3A Action CovCath defeated Highlands 25-15. CovCath won on a last second TD a few weeks back to defeat the 'Birds the first time, but needed no late heroics for this one.
Newport was defeated by Mercer County 43-7, ending the Wildcats season at 8-4.
Next week, NCC will play at Raceland (11-1) at 7:00 PM, Ryle will host Meade County (7-5) at 7:30 PM, and CovCath plays at Lexington Catholic (10-1) at 7:30 PM.
