Northern Kentucky sent down three teams to the Kentucky High School Football State Finals and brought back two Championships. On Thursday, Ryle faced a very tough Trinity Louisville team and lost 41-7. Then on Friday, both NewCath and CovCath won their Class State Championships.
NewCath made one of the most amazing comebacks in championship game history. Late in the third quarter, you might have thought Danville had NewCath beat as the Admirals took a 34-17 lead with about 2 minutes left in the third quarter. But in the 4th quarter, the Breds' scored 3 TD's within 5 minutes and finished an amazing comeback winning 37-34. This was Bob Schneider's first win over Danville and gives NewCath back-to-back State Championships.
In the 3A game, CovCath controlled Bowling Green the entire game. CovCath went into halftime with a 17-0 lead and scored an early TD in the 3rd quarter. Bowling Green was able to put up 8 points in the 4th quarter but was not enough as CovCath won 27-8.
Congratulations to Newport Catholic, Covington Catholic, and Ryle for their great accomplishments this past football season!
