For the second time this school year, the Bellevue and Dayton rivalry has lived up to the hype. On Thursday, January 4, the Green Devils hosted the Tigers in a match-up that will not be forgotten anytime soon by anyone in attendance.
Bellevue had control most of the game as seniors Justin Ross and Scotty Haynes led the way. However, Dayton came firing back in the 4th quarter and tied it up with less than a minute of play. After two free throws made by the Green Devils, the Tigers saw themselves down by two points with just ten seconds remaining. Senior Donnie Carelock then stepped up for the Tigers, nailing a crucial three-pointer with three seconds left to give the Tigers the lead and the win.
The win sends the Tigers to a slow start of a 4-8 record, as they host St. Henry next. The re-match of the Bellevue and Dayton boys’ basketball game will be held on February 9 at the Ben Flora Gymnasium in Bellevue.
