The sun is shining, the snow is melting, and schools across the area are getting out the baseball gloves and bats preparing for the upcoming baseball season. Following a season that was plagued by mental mistakes and errors, the Bellevue Tigers enter the season with expectations to vastly improve and win the majority of their games.
The Tigers return a majority of their starters including shortstop Shain Ball, first basemen Thomas Richter and Joe Buchanan, second baseman David Combs, third baseman Josh Dowling, outfielder Chris Weber, and pitchers Shaun Grant and Roger Babb.
The Varsity team also expects freshmen Tony Piper and Ricky Buckler to contribute to the success. Piper, a pitcher, played varsity last season as an eighth grader and showed great strides of entering the starting rotation. Buckler, a crafty shortstop, could work his way into becoming a key component of contending for conference this season.
“I like the make-up of this team. They work hard and they want to win. We continue to build and expect to be very competitive this season,” explained Bellevue head coach Rob Sanders.
Coach Rob Sanders will send his team to Xenia, Ohio to face the defending Division IV Ohio Champion CHCA on Wednesday March 21 for the team’s first scrimmage. Opening Day for the Tigers will be on March 26 as they welcome conference foe Villa Madonna to the Bellevue Vets.
