Northern Kentucky High School Football begins this Friday and another much anticipated season is almost here. This year begins with the new re-alignment of the football classes as Kentucky has gone from 4 to 6 Classes. This means your team might be playing some different opponents from the norm this year and will also have a better chance of making the district playoffs. Some teams with only 4 teams in their district could go winless and still make the playoffs.
Regardless of the new system, football will still be played and it might start up some new local rivalries. Here are the new alignments for 2007:
Class 1A - District 3
Beechwood, Bellevue, Brossart, Dayton, Ludlow
Class 2A - District 6
Holy Cross, Lloyd, Newport, NewCath
Class 5A - District 5
CovCath, Dixie, Highlands, Holmes, Scott
Class 6A - District 6
Boone County, Campbell County, Conner, Ryle, Simon Kenton
The first week of High School football has some very good match-ups to follow. Most notable, Highlands at Ryle, as both are ranked #1 and #2 respectively in the Kentucky Enquirer's Coaches poll. Here's the complete schedule for Week 1:
Highlands at Ryle
Beechwood at Dixie
Holmes at Dayton
Campbell County at Tates Creek
Scott at Anderson County
Brossart at Owen County
Holy Cross at N. Laurel
Bellevue at Newport (Saturday)
Simon Kenton at NewCath (Saturday)
Boone County at Scott County (Saturday)
Lloyd at Elizabethtown (Saturday)
Ludlow at Trimble County (Saturday)
CovCath at LaSalle(Saturday)
