And then there were two . . . two Northern Kentucky teams left in the Kentucky State football playoffs. Both Highlands and Beechwood will advance to the Semifinals to be played this Friday, November 27.
Highlands defeated Johnson Central 42-21 but the game was much closer in the first half as the Bluebirds went into halftime up only 21-14. But Highlands exploded for two 3rd quarter touchdowns to pull away. Austin Collinsworth finished with 3 touchdowns for the Bluebirds. Highlands will host Pulaski County this Friday at 7:30 P.M.
Class 5A Football Bracket
Beechwood defeated Bellevue 41-20 as Beechwood's running game started early and their defense held Ricky Buckler in-check. Beechwood will travel to Mayfield for their semifinal game on Friday.
Class 1A Football Bracket
Simon Kenton and NewCath were eliminated from the playoffs this past Friday. Simon Kenton found themselves down 34-7 to Louisville St. Xavier before making a second half comeback that fell just short. Even with Miles Simpson hurt, the Pioneers pulled to within 7 points making it 41-34, before St. X finished the game with a long touchdown run. NewCath lost to Louisville DeSales 23-10.
