Especially for the Dixie Heights Colonels, who haven't won a Regional title since 1957! And it was no easy task, as they defeated NewCath 79-76 in FOUR overtimes.
In one of the best High School games you could ever imagine, this was it.
Dixie held a 11-point lead heading into the 4th Quarter, only to see the Breds slowly cut into the lead and send the game into the 1st OT. In the 3rd OT, Dixie lost their two tallest starters to fouls, and then saw Jake Giesler hit a 3-point shot at the buzzer to send the game into a 4th OT! In the end, Dixie made the most of their free throws while the Breds didn't who only made 17 of 34 at the line.
Dixie was led by freshman, Brandon Hatton, who finished the game with 24 points. NewCath was led by Jake Giesler's 30 points. Webcast Replay
For the girls 9th Region title, NewCath defeated top ranked Boone County 50-40. Boone County was the tournament favorite having made the Sweet 16 the past two years. This was a close game until the final 4 minutes when the Lady Breds' defense held Sydney Moss in check and didn't allow any 3-pointers to the Rebels in the second half.
NewCath was led by Kiley Bartels with 14 points, and was also named the tournament MVP. Boone County was led by Sydney Moss with 18 points. Webcast Replay
