CLICK TO WATCH NEWCATH VS DIXIE
The NKY High School Football season begins this weekend and NKYSports.com begins their broadcast coverage with the Republic Bank Game of the Week featuring Newport Central Catholic at Dixie Heights. Live video coverage of the game begins at 7:00 PM, and replay is available immediately after our live coverage. The broadcasts are also brought to you by Regal Maid, Beef O'Brady's in Newport, and Omega Processing.
Dixie comes into the game with a pre-season #3 ranking, while the Breds are ranked at #6. The Colonels will be without starting QB Zeke Pike though, replaced by Goose Cohorn for Dixie's first game. Brady Hightchew is back for another year for the Breds as they look to repeat last year's 2A State Title.
Last year, these two teams began their season against each other in the Skyline Crosstown Showdown at Nippert Stadium where the Breds scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Colonels. Despite Pike being out though, look for this to be a very good game.
Highlands at Boyle County
Highlands, coming off their fourth straight State Championship (5A) takes their #1 NKY Ranking to Boyle County. The Rebels are also coming off a State Championship in 4A and an undefeated season. So, expect this to be a very good game and an early test for both teams.
Cooper at Ryle
The Skyline Crosstown Showdown begins at Clifford R. Borland Sr. Stadium as Ryle comes into the season with a #2 pre-season ranking. Travis Elliott is back again for the Raiders. Last year, Elliott recorded over 2100 rushing yards and 32 rush touchdowns. Look for those numbers to be the same or even better in his senior year.
Ryle has won all three games against Cooper.
