When fans attend the State Championships this weekend at Western Kentucky University, they'll recognize the team name Highlands. But, not many will be familiar with the team Holy Cross, as the Indians head to their first State Football Championship in school history.

Holy Cross defeated Somerset 42-14 to advance to the State Championship. The Indians have won 5 straight, which includes an upset win over last year's Class 2A State Champion, NewCath. Holy Cross (11-3) will now take their high powered offense against the Glasgow Scotties who are undefeated with a 14-0 record.

The Class 2A State Championship game between these two teams will be on Friday, December 2 at 4:00 PM EST.

For Highlands in class 4A, they look to win their 5th straight State Championship and 21st overall. Since their streak of State Titles, starting in 2007, the Bluebirds are 72-2. They defeated Lexington Catholic 42-21 last Friday to advance to this year's State Championship Game. The Bluebirds (14-0) will now face the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats (13-1).

The Class 4A State Championship game will be played on Saturday, December 3 at 4:00 PM EST.

Northern Kentucky almost had 2 more teams head to State in Class 1A and 6A. Beechwood lost to Mayfield 19-14 and Boone County lost to Scott County 16-14.
