The Boone County Rebels Own the 9th Region
3/5/2012 - by Jordan Fugate
Both, Boone County boys and girls, grasp a spot in the state basketball tournament.

BOYS
The Rebels defeat NewCath 54-49
With six minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, NewCath tied the score at 33. The Breds were within three points with only one minute left in the game, but Boone County was capable of utilizing great defensive play and hitting their shots from the strife. Late free-throws were key for Boone County at the end of this game. The Rebels went six for six within the last 1:20 in the game, split between Zane McQueary and Jakeith Pitts.

Zane McQueary finished the game with a team-high 14 points. But to more acknowledgement, McQueary received the All-Tournament Most Valuable Player award.

GIRLS
Boone County bests Notre Dame Academy 62-58
The girls 9th Region Championship game had fans in an uproar. There were three lead changes in the final minute of regulation play. At the end of the 4th quarter the score was tied at 50. Both cheering sections were on their feet with joy, going into overtime. Boone County star, Sydney Moss, scored 10 of her 27 points in OT. The most impressive being the (And-1) shot to put the Rebels up 60-58 with 1.1 seconds remaining. Moss missed the free-throw, but luckily the ball bounced off the rim and right back into Moss’ hands; where she then scored her final two points at the buzzer for the 62-58 victory.
