Alexandria, KY - It was an unusually warm January night in Alexandria as the Holmes Bulldogs came to the home of the Camels. It was also a night that would see Holmes guard Nathan Edmondson catch fire and hit nine three-pointers. Edmondson wasn't the only player on the floor however, there were nine others, but no one would even match his performance tonight.
It all started in the first quarter as Edmondson was the only typical starter for the Bulldawgs. The Camels played a great game and they started off by going on a 6-0 run. Then it was time for Edmondson to start his show. He knocked down his first three with 5:05 in the quarter, the second with 4:23, and the third with 3:44. The Camels were led in the first by their seniors, Brett White and Marcus Clines, each of whom had six points in the quarter. At the end of one it was 12-11, Camels.
The second started out with a Camel bucket and an Edmondson two. Whatever Campbell had to say the Dawgs had an answer for. There would be plenty of lead changes during this one. Jon Verst came off the bench for the Camels and contributed four points in the second to give them an 18-13 lead. Now it was time for the usual suspect to hit a trey. That's right, Nathan Edmondson, who hit two three pointers back-to-back in the second. Despite hitting those two three pointers the Dawgs were still down to the Camels, 20-19. Ryan Eten added four in the second for the Camels who added to their lead and extended it to 32-23 lead at the end of the first half.
Things were looking good for the Camels, but that would change in the second half. The Bulldawgs brought in a powerful force off the bench in the third, his name, Austin Hill. Hill came off the bench and scored 11 points in the quarter. Brett White kept his team in the game despite a run from the Dawgs. The Camels were in the lead until the 3:30 mark, that is when Holmes tied it up at 36-36. So, as the crowd looked on it was Nathan Edmondson who would hit again from downtown. This time it gave Holmes the lead for good. Edmondson would strike for the seventh time at the end of the third and Holmes was up 50-43.
The fourth wouldn't be any different from the Bulldogs. The Camels fought hard to stay close, but after Edmondson hit for the eighth time, it was all but over, but then when he knocked down the ninth, it was over. That gave the Dawgs an eight point lead, 64-56, late in the fourth. The Camels would get more scoring from Brett White, who finished with 19 and Jon Verst, who finished with 18. The final score from CCHS was 71-58, Holmes.
