FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COACH RON DAWN TO RETURN AS
NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC
BOYS' BASKETBALL COACH
Newport Central Catholic High School named Ron Dawn as its new head coach for the Boys' Basketball Program. Ron will replace Coach Grant Brannen who accepted a teaching and coaching position at Walton Verona High School.
Dawn, a 1974 graduate of Newport Catholic and standout basketball player began his coaching career at NCC with the boys basketball program in 1980. He was named the NCC boys head coach in 1990. After a five year break to follow his son's college basketball career, he resumed coaching duties at NCC. He was named the girls' head coach in 2009, a post he held for four seasons.
Coach Dawn is the only coach in the state to win an All "A" State Championship in both boys and girls basketball. Additionally, he is the only 9th Region Coach to win a regional title for both the boys and girls. Coach Dawn has over 400 career victories.
NCC Principal Carl Foster was quoted as saying, "Ron Dawn has had a tremendous impact on NCC. From being a Hall of Fame player and coach, to a great teacher, a mentor to student athletes and younger coaches, he has always handled himself with class. He is respected by his players, colleagues, and opposing coaches. He has accomplished things that no other coach in the state of Kentucky has accomplished. His love for the game and devotion to NCC basketball is commendable. We are fortunate to have Ron on the sidelines again."
NCC Athletic Director added, "As much as we hated to see Coach Brannen leave NCC, we are very fortunate that Ron Dawn has accepted the opportunity to become head coach. Ron's record speaks for itself. He is a fantastic coach and mentor and we feel honored that he will continue the great tradition that is NCC Basketball."
Ron Dawn commented, "I am really looking forward to coaching this group of young men. We will work hard and do our best to keep the longstanding tradition of NewCath basketball going strong."
