Not Pretty, but Holmes Downs Holy Cross, 21-7 |

The Holmes Bulldogs outlasted the visiting Holy Cross Indians, 21-7, in a long and humid contest that included a 30-minute lightning delay.
The game was anything but clean as the teams combined for six turnovers and a multitude of penalties, mostly of the pre-snap variety. The Bulldogs soldiered through the mess and broke the game open with two long touchdown runs by senior running back Delijuah Ross Tyus.
"Wasn't pretty, but I just told the kids I would rather have an ugly win than an ugly loss," said Bulldogs Head Coach Ben Nevels. "So, we'll take it. We'll watch film from it and learn from it."
Holy Cross scored its only touchdown on its opening drive and looked good doing in, thanks in large part to the accurate passing by quarterback Hamilton Scott. After that, however, Holmes adjusted by taking away shorter passes in the flats and forcing the Indians to use the middle of the field which they were not able to do well.
