Highlands, 47, Bryan Station 41
Highlands receiver Alex Veneman caught a 43-yard touchdown catch with under two minutes left to give the Bluebirds the lead they needed to escape with a win. Highlands produced over 500 yards in total offense in the shootout. The Bluebirds remain unbeaten this year at 2-0 and host John Hardin next Friday night.
Dixie 48, Beechwood 21
Dixie trampled Beechwood by rushing for seven touchdowns in the win, including four by quarterback Drew Moore. The Colonels righted their season after getting thumped at Covington Catholic a week ago, and showed they are not to be taken lightly in their district. Dixie (1-1) plays Cincinnati's Turpin next week, while Beechwood (0-2) visits Holy Cross at Holmes High School.
Campbell County 30, Newport Central Catholic 17
The Campbell County defensive line sacked NCC quarterback Pat Henschen eight times including on a safety that gave the Camels a lead they would not relinquish. The game was played at Newport Stadium and was part of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown series. The Camel front four was so dominant against New Cath, the Thoroughbreds ended the game with -1 yard rushing on 33 attempts. Campbell County quarterback Carson Plessinger ran for three scores and now has seven rushing touchdowns on the season. Campbell County (2-1) hosts Cooper next week, and Newport Central Catholic (0-2) tries to get on track against Simon Kenton.
