Simon Kenton Rolls on Homecoming, Beats Campbell Co., 45-13 |

In what at halftime seemed to be a competitive, slug-it-out game, Simon Kenton scored five straight second-half touchdowns to crush Campbell County, 45-14. The Pioneers remain perfect after seven games so far this season.
“We had a really good week of practice. We were really focused and the kids were definitely prepared to play tonight,” Simon Kenton head coach Jeff Marksberry said.
The scoring for Simon Kenton (7-0) began right away as Logan Winkler took the opening kickoff 88 yards to the house, giving the Pioneers an immediate lead that they would not surrender.
Campbell County (4-2) took the opening blow well, though, and rallied back with a first-quarter touchdown of their own when quarterback Carson Plessinger rolled right, but threw left and gave Gabe Kremer the chance to pull in a contested catch in the back of the end zone. On the drive, Campbell County converted four first downs on a nice mix of runs and passes and looked like they had a serviceable offensive game plan against the Pioneers. That success, however, would be brief as the SK defense shut down the Camels attack from that point on.
The score before halftime, however, remained tied at seven because of four turnovers on consecutive possessions, two by each team. Simon Kenton defensive back Trent Kincaid recorded his fifth interception of the season on a deep Plessinger attempt.
After the Pioneers took over deep into Camel territory after a Plessinger fumble, they had to settle for a field goal when Cam Racke's pass for Winkler was incomplete in the end zone, making the score 10-7.
The second half was all Pioneers, which surprised Marksberry.
