Newport Central Catholic overwhelmed Bishop Brossart at home, hammering the Mustangs 36-0. The Thoroughbreds raced out to 36 points in the game's first 12 minutes.
Brossart was completely outmatched in all three phases of the game, as they were unable to tackle well at all, unable to generate hardly any offense, allowed two big kick returns and missed a short field goal. All in the first half.
The tone was set in the opening kickoff when Nate Enslen returned it 59 yards to put the Breds in excellent starting field position. Two snaps later, Jacob Smith took the ball on a sweep to the right, made a cut and waltzed into the end zone untouched. On the two-point conversion, New Cath ran the exact same play for the exact same outcome making the score 8-0. That was the beginning to a quick end for Brossart.
On the Mustangs' first possession, quarterback Clay Kramer was sacked for a 14-yard loss after scrambling and were forced to punt. On the next play, the Breds tricked the Mustangs on a double-reverse hand off that translated into a 42-yard touchdown.
After taking back over following a Kramer interception on a screen play, Jacob Smith took a hand off up the middle and ran it in for an easy 37-yard score. Soon after that, Enslen caught a quick pass in the flat, juked his man nearly out of his shoes, and ran it in 52 yards for a touchdown.
