Newport Rolls Over Holy Cross, 51-6 |

The second play of the game provided a harbinger of things to come for Newport on a night it dominated its opponent, Holy Cross. But sometimes, it pays to be more lucky than good.
Well inside their own territory, senior quarterback Paul Price retrieved an errant shotgun snap that sailed over his head. Recovered, Price found a wide open Rico Hollis 40 yards down the sideline sneaking past the Holy Cross defense which thought it had the Wildcats’ quarterback for a significant loss. Only 25 seconds in, Newport jumped out to an 8-0 lead.
On the Indians’ ensuing drive, junior quarterback Hamilton Scott led his team down the field to the Newport 25, where their momentum ended, ultimately missing a 40-yard field goal wide right.
With good field position, Newport took advantage. On a sweep down the right sideline, junior Tyree Bolden gave the Wildcats another big play. Adding salt to the Indians’ wound, Bolden was taken down by his facemask, tacking on additional yardage and giving Newport the ball near the Indians’ 20. Two plays later, senior back Dominic Joseph took the handoff 14 yards up the middle into the end zone for the Wildcats’ second score of the evening, putting the home team up 16-0.
Following a Holy Cross’ punt, Newport once again made its way deep into Indians’ territory. A few plays later, Price capitalized, zigzagging across the field, beating a host of Holy Cross defenders to the pylon, diving in to put the Wildcats up 23-0.
