It was a rough final game for senior members of the Holmes football team, marching band, and cheerleading squad, as Newport came to Tom Ellis Field and routed the Bulldogs 38 - 14.
Holmes finishes its regular season with a 2-8 record, ending with a 3-game losing streak in which it was outscored 112-14.
The Wildcats improved to 6-4 on the year with the win, powered by three first quarter touchdowns, including scores by Paul Price and Dominic Joseph.
Halloween and chilly temperatures led to a light crowd for the game, though the rain held off till the end. Both teams head to the playoffs next week with Holmes facing Ashland Blazer and Newport matching up with Gallatin Co.
