The top-5 poll was shaken up some after Holmes fell to Boone County on Tuesday night. The top two teams, Cov Cath and New Cath, remain neck and neck for the top spot as each are on double-digit win totals.
1. Covington Catholic (22-4): Cov Cath rolls along as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. The Colonels have now won 11 in a row after hammering Cooper on Tuesday 61-42. Their next, and arguably best remaining test of the season is against Dixie on Friday at The Bank of Kentucky Center. CCH is likely to end the regular season as the Ninth Region's top team.
2. Newport Central Catholic (24-3): The way that New Cath is playing, it's hard to call them second best, but their last loss came at the hands of Cov Cath and because of it, they remain behind the Colonels. They completely rolled through the All “A” Classic state tournament in Frankfort and won four games locally since then. Their game against Holmes on Friday night at The Bank of the Kentucky Center is easily their toughest competition left on their schedule and if they are able to get the win, they will head into the District tournament with a head full of steam.
3. Boone County (17-9): Putting the Rebels third on the poll is debatable, but their win over Holmes on Tuesday was enough to move them up from fifth last week to third today. Boone County put up 97 points in their win over the Bulldogs, despite only making one three-pointer in the game. The Rebels are a big team that is stout underneath and have won five of their last seven games. They still have tough games against Campbell County and at Dixie to conclude their regular season and should be a tough team to face in the postseason tournaments.
