OMEGA Processing Game of the Week - Lloyd vs Walton Verona
8/19/2015 - by NKS Editor
Welcome back to NKYSports.com as we begin our 10th Anniversary covering Northern Kentucky Sports! The High School football season begins this weekend and we’re happy to have OMEGA Processing back for a 3rd straight season as our Title Sponsor and welcome back the OMEGA Processing Game of the Week.

To start out the 2015 High School football season the OMEGA Processing Game of the Week webcast features Lloyd at the Walton-Verona. Historically, the past 3 games between these teams have been close. Walton-Verona has won the past 2 games (playoffs).

In this Class 2A game, Walton-Verona returns Senior RB Halsey Page who ran for 609 yards and 8 TD’s last season. For Lloyd, they return a couple offensive weapons with Junior RB Justin Durham and Senior WR Charles Gaines. Durham recorded 913 rush yards and 18 TD’s while Gaines had 40 receptions for 558 yards and 6 TD’s.

NewCath at Scott
This should be an interesting opening night game between 2A NewCath and 5A Scott. These two teams have not played each other in 13 years (2002). Both teams return some of the best running backs in NKY as well. The Breds have Jacob Smith back for one more year. Smith rushed for 1,477 yards and 25 TD’s last year, and they’ll have a more experienced QB in Junior Patrick Henschen who threw for 1,461 yards and 12 TD’s last year.

The Eagles return 2 running backs and their QB. Senior RB Roberto London rushed for 908 yards and 8 TD’s last year while his fellow running partner Deondre Pleasant ran for 763 yards and 7 TD’s. Senior Danny Fitzgerald returns at QB, the Eagles didn’t throw the ball much last year with only 54 attempts. So expect much the same against the Breds Friday night.

Highlands at Cooper
You know Cooper (6A) will be fired up to host Highlands (5A) in their first ever matchup. Last year the Jaguars made a great run in the playoffs until losing to Pulaski County 33-7 in the Class 5A Semifinals. The Bluebirds won the Class 4A State Championship last season 49-42 vs Owensboro in great comeback fashion.

The Bluebirds will be reloading on offense this season while the Jaguars will have one of the top running backs return. Senior Torey Cordell-Armstrong ran for 1,753 yards and 16 TD’s last season. Cooper also returns many of their defensive starters.

Ryle at CovCath
Ryle is 3-1 overall against CovCath and won last year at Ryle 21-14. CovCath begins a new era with coach Eddie Eviston. Eviston was the head coach at NewCath and most recently the Offensive Coordinator at Georgetown College. Now he takes over a team that was 8-5 last year, including 2 more losses to Highlands.

Coach Mike Engler is now in his second season at Ryle and is looking to build on the momentum from the end of last year. The Raiders got off to a slow start last season with 3 straight losses but then had some big wins towards the end of the season before falling to Dixie 46-21 in the 2nd round of the Class 6A playoffs.
