After an exciting opening week in Northern Kentucky high-school football, the action continues this week with some marquee match ups that should help shape up the front runners in the season’s early going.
Highlands started out as our top team in the region, but fell to Cooper in their opener, 37-13. After the loss, Highlands falls all the way to fourth in this week’s poll. Cooper takes on NewCath this week, while Highlands looks to bounce back against Campbell County.
Simon Kenton moves into the top spot after hammering Christian Academy (Lex.), 50-23 last week. Simon Kenton takes on another Lexington team this week as they travel to Bryan Station in a tough road game.
Ryle rises in the polls to third after outlasting CovCath last week in a tough game that required a late fourth quarter score to end up on top. Ryle also heads south to Lexington when they take on Lexington Catholic in their second road game of the season.
CovCath heads north to the University of Cincinnati where they will play St. Xavier at the newly renovated Nippert Stadium as part of the Skyline Crosstown Showdown series.
The Colonels new quarterback Ae J. Meyer played well in his debut against Ryle, but the team’s kicking game made it tough as they were unable to make a kick all day. To compound their problems, running back Ben Darlington badly injured his leg and is expected to be out for some time.

1. Cooper (1-0)
2. Simon Kenton (1-0)
3. Highlands (0-1)
4. Ryle (1-0)
